We recently completed a comprehensive internal refurbishment and fit-out project involving consulting rooms, offices and reception areas. The works were delivered to a high standard, ensuring full compliance with building regulations, fire safety standards and acoustic performance requirements.

This project consisted of the following:

  • Asbestos Survey: A full, intrusive asbestos survey carried out across all working areas to ensure safe project delivery.
  • Demolition & Strip-Out: Careful removal of existing glazing, partitions, flooring, skirting, built-in furniture and outdated finishes in preparation for the new layout.
  • Partition Construction: Installation of new acoustic-rated stud partitions, including fire-rated and soundproof walls in both consulting rooms and office areas.
  • Windows & Doors: Supply and installation of new PVCu windows and fire-rated internal doors with all associated hardware and finishes.
  • Internal Finishes: Complete plastering, skirting replacement, MDF window boards, pipe boxing and joinery for fitted furniture and infills.
  • Decorations: Full decoration of walls, ceilings and woodwork using high-durability coatings and finishes throughout consulting and office areas.
  • Flooring Installation: New vinyl safety flooring and barrier matting, with coving, stair nosings and appropriate trims to all designated areas.
  • Electrical Works: Complete design and installation of new power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm integration, data points and security systems to meet the latest IEE and British Standards.
  • Plumbing & Heating: Installation of IPS units, sanitaryware, thermostatic mixers and hot/cold water feeds, along with a new LST radiator and necessary mechanical pipework and builders’ works.

While we regularly operate in live environments such as schools and public buildings, working within a live medical surgery presented a unique set of challenges. The nature of the setting required even greater sensitivity, flexibility and real-time responsiveness. On several occasions, works had to be paused unexpectedly – for example, when a patient required emergency care and an ambulance was called.

Our team responded professionally and respectfully at all times, stepping away from active works immediately when needed and maintaining close communication with surgery staff throughout.

Another key challenge was the tight turnaround time for each consultation room. We were required to complete all works within a two-day window per room to minimise disruption to surgery operations. By the third day, each room needed to be fully functional and ready for patient use, while our team moved immediately on to the next space. This rolling schedule demanded precise coordination, efficient workflows and close communication with surgery staff – ensuring that clinical services could continue with minimal interruption.

This project showcases our ability to deliver specialist refurbishment services in complex environments with high attention to technical detail, safety and quality. Careful planning, clear coordination and a strong site management presence ensured that all critical works were completed safely and without compromising patient care or the surgery’s ability to function.

The new consulting spaces, office and reception areas now provide a modern, compliant and functional environment for both staff and visitors at Granville House Medical Centre. In addition, the success of this project has led to the client approaching Parklands for another upcoming phase of work at the surgery.
